Hi! I'm not fairly new to photoshop, but I have a couple of questions about transparent gifs. I know you guys probably heard this all before, but any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm created a web page with a drag java script where people can move pictures with there mouse. I uploaded all the pictures to my picture hoster, put all the code in...and I've noticed that theres the matte around when the pictures got moved over another picture. so i went back into ps and put the matte to none..and it seemed to fix the problem until the pictures turned out all choppy.

My question is...is there any way to get the transparent gif with non choppy edges and without matte?

I've been searching the web and trying out numerous things is photoshop, but it just seems impossible.

is it impossible? is ps the right program to use? I tried paintshop pro...but it just seems more complicated than ps.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, i would be really grateful. I know it seems a little long to read this...but i'm freakin fried man!! LOL thanks so much!

Matte color needs to match the background color. GIF cannot have a "soft" (semi-transparent) edge.

You can save as PNG, but of course, MSIE for Windows does not have full PNG support. (idiotic! Every other browser does. Even MSIE for Mac does.)

hey, saving it as png does help it out a lot. and i tested it on the web page i created and it worked great. although i did have to find a new java sript program that works with firefox. its cool though...guess i'll make two webpages...one for firefox and the other for explorer. thanks so much for your help.
