Hi I am new so be gentle 
I went to this address: http://www.n-sane.net/guest_tutorials/shocking_text/index.php
and all was well up until this point:
12. Click on layer “Text 2.” Go Select > Selection and click “Ok.” Go Select > Contract and contract by 2 pixels. Now go Edit > Fill and fill in the selection with Black.
When I click on text 2 and Select there is no option for Select > Selection or indeed Select > Contract. Is this tutorial for a different version of Photoshop (I have Photoshop CS2 installed) or am I missing something? If anyone can tell me how to achieve step 12 and add the black inner text to my electric effect I would be very appreciative.

I don't know about select | selection. I don't think it exists, and from the looks of the tut you needn't worry about that step at all.
In the next part he means select | modify | contract

Modify is greyed out as an option  Any other ideas how to get the black text fill ? |

Theonly reason for contract to be greyed out is if nothing is selected. try making a selection.
