Hello,

This is my first post on here. I have been using photoshop for a day and am still trying to figure it out.

What i want to know is if i create a background layer can i have the two upper corners as curved edges. If so how do i do this?

If not what is the solution.

I am trying to create a header for my menu on my website, this will be a 173 x 30 rectangle.

Welcome to the world of Photoshop.

There are 1000's of different ways and methods to acheive what you are wanting to do in photoshop. I have screen captured just ONE way for you. Hopefully you can follow along with what I have drawn up. If you look on the screen shot below you should be able to. NOTE I mixed steps 1 & 3 up.

step 3: Right click on the line tool icon, then move your cursor down to the second icon. That is called the Rounded Rectanglar tool

Step 2. Make a new layer by clicking on the new page icon that i have wipped out in the layers pallte. LAYERS ARE KEY TO PHOTOSHOP!

Step 1: Make sure you click on the center icon in step 3 and you can adjust your raduis for your curve over in the radius adjustment space.

Step 4: draw your "curve" by holding down your mouse button and dragging it along to where you want it to end. *NOTE* There are other ways of controlling this too.

Step 5 make the path into a selection by left clicking on the icon that is displayed in step 5. If you don't have or see the path palltes, in your menu bar with in photoshop, go to windows and thne click on paths.

And fill the selection you just made with any color you wish by pressing the shift key and at the same time press the "g" key on your keyboard. then you are wanmting to choose a colour. Choosing a colour then hold your cursor over the selected area, and left click once.

To hide selections press ctlr-h To reveal a hidden selection press ctrl-h again. To deselect a selction press ctrl-d

My advice to you is to PLAY PLAY PLAY with photoshop to get any good at it.

I could have done this method five times over in the time I took to type this out for you. Your welcome.

If you have any questions post a message in this thread for me here and I or anyone else here will try to answer them for you.

Welcome to Photoshop. :-)
