What is the difference between levels and curves? They seem to do about the same thing when I play with them.
Thanks. |

yeah they pretty much do. But curves is supposed to be better than levels. although i prefer using levels. its probably just because im comfortable with it. Levels, is based on the histogram and when you move the sliders, it knocks out certain colors. Like if you move the left slider inwards, it makes all the shades of gray from the pointer, to the left of the histogram all black. If you move the right slider inwards it makes all those shades of gray between right side and pointer, white.
the curves function does somethig similar, as ull notice the 2 different gradients. im not really sure how the curves work, but it is supposed to be better. _________________ www.kg-studios.com |

with curves you can also get really fancy and remove colours, inverse colours, solarize, etc... You can't do that with levels. _________________ brush your hair and comb your teeth |

Curves does give a lot more options really, as well as the things listed above you can "look" at an area of the tonal range and just ajust that part by locking the curve each side and ajusting that area of the range in between. Wayne |

You are right to a point, levels and curves basicaly do the same thing EXECPT curves is a much more finer tool than levels is. Follow this link to get more indepth of what the realtionship between curves and levels are. I wish they (call for help) had a video on their website to show you how levels and curves work. http://www.callforhelptv.com/callforhelp/guests/0230A.shtml
You can and should go to these websites for more help with Photoshop. Alex Lindsay and Bert Monroy taught me how to use Photoshop through TechTV. They are excellent teachers!!!
www.bertmonroy.com Bert has an email address and it is bert@bertmonroy.com Bert is a very friendly person.
www.pixelcorps.com
www.dvgarage.com
I am not sure what Alex's personal email is, but if you email your questions to photoshoptips@pixelcorps.com I'm sure someone will get back to you hopefully.
Both Bert and Alex are very busy people just so you know that it may take a while for them to get back to you.
ONE NOTE: The Photoshop Basics 1 CD that is on the front page of the dvgarage.com website is an EXCELLENT training tool for any one who is wanting to learn how to use Photoshop. I have the CD's and they are AWESOME! The CD's are in Quicktime format so both Mac's and PC's can be used. They provide simple step by step Quicktime movie instructions and tutorials. The CD's also provide Photoshop files for you to follow along with the Quicktime movies or to try at your own pace. _________________ Qubert |
