I've got the Adobe Web Collection with Photoshop 6.0/ImageReady 2.0, Illustrator 9.0, GoLive 5.0, and Livemotion 1.0. I'm thinking of upgrading and getting PhotoShop 7 and GoLive 6 since I use them most.
Should I upgrade? It's so expensive, are the new features really worth the $$ spent?
I appreciate your opinions...

I don't really know if it is worth the upgrade from v.6 - if you've got some spare cash, it might be nice, but v.7 certainly doesn't improve _that_ much over v.6...

I agree with Adam and platinum- If you can afford it, go for it, but there are likely many better ways to spend your money.
Photoshop 7 seems just to include minor upgrades, and most of the improvements aren't huge in terms of additions to functionality. They just seem to be improvements in asthetics, in ease (for certain aspects), and the improvements are generally things that could have been included a while ago.
There are a few nice new features, like the updated paint engine and, as Adam mentioned, the patch tool. However, if you look at the huge improvements other versions have had (layers and actions in 4, history pallete and layer styles in 5, shapes in 6), Photoshop 7 is more like 6.5. |

I have been using Adobe Photoshop 6.0 ever since it came out and when 7.0 was released I had the opportunity to play around with it for nearly an hour. I have become anti Photoshop 7.0 .. it's too different from what I can remember. I think anything that can be done in 7 can be done in 6 as well. So, I don't think it's worth the upgrade. Only for 5.5 users.

If you absolutely need the healing brush, which honestly most people DON'T, then upgrade to 7.0. Otherwise it's probably not worth the money. |

I really love the new brush panel actually
If you want a cheap option, you can buy a cheap version of PS on ebay or somewhere, then upgrade to v.7

In my expiriecne theres realy ont that much difference. Theres a couple more tools and a paint engine. It's pretty much the same as ps6. I woudln't waste my money though. |

Actually, Photoshop 7 has got quite a lot that's new. But as others have said, unles you need/use these, upgrading is moot. (no, I didn't rip this list from an Adobe press release, I've actually used all these)
File Browser
Like running ACDSee from Photoshop. Handy when you need it. You can even batch-rename files with this sucker.
Healing brush
Way quicker and better than the rubber stamp for certain tasks.
Auto Color
Right next to Auto Levels and Auto Contrast. Way cool, especially if your scanner is so-so. I can do the same thing this does myself, but only this does it in less than a second.
Pattern maker filter
Does this need any explanation?
Liquify filter is mo' betta
Yes, in Photoshop 7 it's now under the Filter menu
Better save for web
new ways to handle transparency and better PNG options
Scripting API
What? I can control Photoshop with Javascript? And you through actions were cool.
Spell checking and find/replace
Sweet.
Vastly improved brush dynamics
Lots of sliders for various jitter, shape, and size effects. Dual brush painting and more.
Coolest new featurelet
Double-click layer names to re-name them.
