Hi all,
I have been trying to find out how to batch file. and script. I need to save my work onto a CD and have been advised to use batch filing as i have 1000 or more pics to go onto CD or scripting. I have never come across this side of photoshop as i have no knowledge of it and what it does.
I f you can help it will be great, but please can you explain the step by step process as i have never done this before.
Cheers Josel |

First off batch processing (under file/automate/batch process) is usually use to run an action on a batch of pics that need the same ajuustments or the same modification (say an auto levels and convert to black and white, or correct the colour ballance of shots all taken in the same lighting etc) I'm not sure if thats what your talking about or not? but you mention writing to CD, which you can do without photoshop.
As for scriping this is a sort of advanced action, but with more options, such as moving images between PS and Illustrator etc but you would need some idea of using Javascript, but again I'm not sure of the CD connection.
Sorry if I have misunderstould you, I haven't had my second coffee yet and I'm useless till I get that! lol Wayne |

Are you wanting to make changes to the files? Like change their foramt? If not, why involve Photoshop at all? |

not bothered about file type, however each photo comes out about 18meg from my camers in jpeg. So you can imagine the file size after 245 photos later when the memory card is full.
So alls im wanting to do is batch all my photos to a cd or dvd oin loseless tiff or psd or even us a lossless compression to downsize the image, i dont want to lose image quality.
SO HOW DO I GO ABOUT BATCH CAPTURING OR SCRIPTING SO THAT ALL MY IMAGES ARE SAFE ON CD AND SMALLER FILE SIZES WITHOUT LOSING IMAGE QUALITY.
tHESE ARE THE ORINGINAL PHOTOS AND NO LAYERS INVOLVED AT ALL.

Well converting them to TIFF's will increase the file size a fair bit. The short answer is you cant reduce the file size without loosing something somewhere, your options really are make them smaller (in actual size) or make the files smaller but loose some quality.
My choice would be to back them up to CD as they are (use a few CD's) then if you have to put them all on one for whatever reason (to post etc) use the save for web option (file/save for web) hit the 4 up tab and check out the options, try jpeg medium, and compare the quality, you will find theres very little difference between the original and some of the others, yes you are loosing quality, but not too much.
Once you find one that your happy with just make an action, to do what you need and batch them with it (keeping the originals safe) Wayne |
