Hi all,
I have photoshop cs2, need to backup about 1000 files of family photos, have already put the images on a external hard drive but I am trying to put the images onto a cd or DVD as a extra precaution as my friend only put his files onto his hard drive and guess what? YUP lost them all.
So how to i do it? hoe do i downsize the file or comprees it so when i open the image on the CD/DVD I then uncompress the image without losing image quality. I heard you can do this by saving your image as a PSD file and using winzip.

I back up all my stuff to DVD/CD. The way I work is as soon as I download the pics from my camera, I make a copy of the whole file onto a second hard drive (leaving them on the card as well for the time being) this means I have one folder on E drive and another on C drive plus the originals still on the card, now I copy the first folder (C drive) onto a CD.

I use Roxio and Nero for this depending which PC I'm using, but with most CD writers you can just drag and drop into the CD icon and they will write. When I have that done (I make 2 CD's) then and only then do I delete the pics off the card, I usualy leave them untill I need the card again, I just swop cards.

Now I know this sound like overkill, but as I make money from my photos I really cant afford to risk losing originals, generaly JPEG only loose quality when you resave them after ajustments, so by saving the originals
I'm playing safe. It's also best to save as PSD or TIFF after work as these formats are classed as "lossless"

As for saving to CD I wouldn't zip them theres no need, you should get loads on a CD, and they are cheap as chips, so burn a couple and cover yourself, I make at least 2 each. Wayne
