I've recently been asked to design a literary magazine cover page. The theme of the magazine is "A Tree Grows In My Mind".
I have come up with the following:

A friend of mine created this:

And Yet another friend made this:

Which one would be the best to use for an art magazine cover? Also, if anyone wants to create one and give me any good ideas I'd really appreciate it. The print size will be 8.5"x11".

I really like the third one, it keeps the theme and its not quite so graphic and easier on the eyes... just my opinion

I'm afraid I argree with sheik09 on this the third is probably the best option as it gets the point across without upsetting anyone.

I do think the first image is striking though, but just a bit graphic for some, although I like it. Wayne

You could also use one of those trees with the vine like roots found in old ruins (think tomb raider style)...growing over the side of the head with the roots blending into the head
I grabbed a couple of quick internet picture to show the point...its just sample...

I think the crack is what is freaking people out.

Actually that's a great idea with the roots! Then I can avoid the crack in the skull! Awesome thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna redo something from scratch with that idea and I'll post it up later.

The 3rd reminds me of an album cover.

The first is very Monty Pytonesque...

I would go with the 3rd of those that you presented.
