Hi,

I am new to Photoshop, and am trying to change the blue background of this jpg image to another lined pattern.

I have tried to extract and replace the blue colour from the orig image, but it does not look good. I then tried to create a new logo, but don't know how to create the reflection like the first image.

I need to know 2 things
1. What are the steps to replace the blue background with some other colour. Will it be possible on this image, considering that it has a mirror image shadow below.

2. If I want to create a similar mirror image shadow on another image, how do I create it in Photoshop 7.

Please help.

Thanks a lot.

here's the answer to your first one, using the magic wand select, select everything except for the text, including the shadow.

Make a new layer and color it whatever color you want...and then go to blending options -> Blend Mode -> color

and you should be done. Make it lighter or darker as needed by filling it with different colors.

Hi Haunus,

Thanks for your help. I can see that it is possible with your kind help. Unfortunately, every time I select with the magic wand, the picture is not selected properly.

could you advice the tolerance level you have used in the magic wand. Are you able to select easily, or do you select many times.

I would greatly appreciate if you could send the PSD file to see how you have done the blending. Or else please help to write down in little more detail.

I am a new user to photoshop and am really struggling. Please help sir.

Thanks,
Vinai

You might want to use COLOR RANGE under Select.
I think it will do exactly what you want...works the same as the magic wand but its controled by the color with a fuzzy slider.

Many thanks Lasa. Although my first time to use the Color Range, I got it to work and got exactly what I wanted.

Thanks a lot for your support. appreciate it!

BTW, I would still like to know how to use the Magic wand more effective. WHat ways are there to get the entire backgroud blue selected using the magic wand. I tried with different tolerance levels, but got a very poor effect.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Vinai

i'm not sure.. I never have difficulty, sometimes you have to select more than one peice, if so hold down shift and it will let you "ADD" selections to the current ones.

For an image such as that one, there should be no need to use the magic wand to change background colour. Adding a layer on color blend mode is a good way, but seeing as the text is black, the new layer wil not alter it. making a selection is a needless step here.

You said PS 7: I'm pretty suer this'll work for the reflection.
-Duplicate your background layer, by dragging it onto the new layer button.
-On this new layer. select the solid color background and delete it. if you have a few stray coloured pixels, it probably won't matter since they're the same colour as the layer behind them
-Press Ctrl-T. This executes a 'free transform", also available from the edit>transform menu. Along the top of the screen you should get a few new controls. one of them controls the vertical height of your transformation. Guess what happens if you throw a minus sign in front of the 100% text in that box?
-finish that up by clicking the check mark at the top, and then move the laye till it's in the irght place.

Change the reflections transparency or add a gradient mask to get it to look real nice.

Oh yes...I didnt think of that, regardless its always good to know how to use the shift button when making selections...
