Creating a seamless background with diagonal lines?

Hi all,

I was hoping somebody could explain how I can go about making a seamless background (for use on a webpage) consisting of very faint, very closely-spaced diagonal lines. Can anyone help?

That's far bigger than it needs to be. You only need the image to be maybe 6 by 6 pixels. Then fill in with the pencil tool a diagonal line pattern from one corner to the other. Then go on either side so you'l have a sort of 3-pixel wide line. That'll be good enough.

Okay, so after I've drawn that, do I need to use any filters or anything?

Open a new document and make it something like 4x4 (you need to play around with the size to get something that you like, make sure the width and height is the same) select transparent background and hit OK.

Select the color you want to use, then select the line tool. Start at the top right corner or top left which ever you prefer and drag it to the opposite side towards the bottom.

Then go to Edit>Define Pattern, enter a name like Diagonal Line, then click OK.

Go back to the document you was working on and what ever you want the diagonal lines on, select it in the layers window then goto Layer Styles>Pattern Overlay and it should in the drop down menu for you to choose.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

But I need to turn this pattern into a seamless tiling background for a webpage, not just use a pattern I define as the background for an image. Isn't there some other step that I need to take to make sure that it will tile properly in a browser (e.g. that there will be continuous diagonal lines from the top of the page to the bottom?)

here, just dowload this (I just made it and I grant you official permission to use it, redistribute it, and do whatever with it), and just change the colours till they suit you. it tiles.
