Which is better.....CS or CS2? Also, which is the latest version, and/or is there another version that has been released since CS2? We're stuck in the stone age w/version 6.0.1 at work, and will hopefully (well, sooner or later) be able to upgrade/purchase newer versions. I've heard that there's been a lot of quirks with CS2....any truth to this?

I had been holding off installing CS2. (from CS1) But finally made the leap last week.
You’re on a PC, so may have different issues. But so far so good here. I think there have been more video card conflicts in the PC world with CS2. There have also been reports (on both Mac and PC) of brush slow-downs in large files.

My main beef (and this may change when I get used to it) is the quick, agile File Browser has been replaced by a separate application called Bridge. Adobe Bridge is much more powerful than the old File Browser, but slow and awkward for me to use. I wish Adobe had left File Browser in place as a “lite” version of Bridge.

Though coming from 6, you will be thrilled with either CS or CS2 I believe.

Now cbadland, you know as well as I do that Mac's work way better with photoshop than a pc does Brow Brow Brow

This "bridge", is that supposed to make photoshop as file friendly as corel draw is (as far as opening and importing nearly any type of file, which corel can do and photoshop struggles with)? Or is it just some glorified version of the file browser?

As well as… I don’t know why anyone would…
Well let's not go there.
Just say I'm happy as a clam with my setup.

No. As far as I know Bridge has nothing to do with what files PS can open or read. Bridge helps integrate the other programs in the CS suite (Creative Suite suite?), such as InDesign and Illustrator. It also has more viewing, organizing and flagging options. I can see for large production companies or professional photographers it could be quite handy. (And while were on the subject, take a look at Apple’s Aperture. A competitor with Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw. A sweet looking app)

Let us know what you get. Also, if you are a member of NAPP, they have video tours of all the new features in CS2. (You can see me on one the random images displayed on their main page. Group shot with Russell Brown - I'm on the far left with dark hair and baggie eyes askance.)

HEHE! No, let's not bash my poor windows based PC--it'll get mad and crash the OS on me!

No, I'm not a member of NAPP-->I couldn't see spending the money to join since I'm in a small town area, and the big work that I do is for the Government, which doesn't copyright any of their (my) pictures that I do while on the clock. To bad, because I've had stuff published in papers and whatnot, and even had stuff submitted to TIME magazine which got cut at the last minute and the article was run without pictures Bawling

Could you post a link to that picture, or post it here? It's always neat to "strut your stuff" online....speaking of which, I have a picture a buddy took of me photographing the Vice President of the US (Richard Cheney) when he was here on December 6th (also happens to be my birthday!), I oughta post that! LOL!!!!

As Chadland has said, there have been problems reported with CS2's slow running, the bridge on mine is painfully slow, and I have tried all the fixes on Adobes site with very little improvement, it also seems to have freezes and crashes reported (mine freezes now and again) which I never had with CS or the older versions.
Personaly I'd wait for the "new" version CS3 (or whatever it going to be called) it's out next year I'm told, hopefully they will have fixed the problems and added more goodies. Wayne

CS2 freezes alot, happens most when i duplicate a layer! Confused
I never use bridge btw, takes forever to start up and takes even longer too show all the tumbs of the files! Dodgy
There are however some helpfull new additions to it! such as zooming in and out when in freetransform, vanishing point.. etc

Good information to know to help me make an "informed decision". Don't know if I'd use that bridge thingy, the files I look at are between 6 and 48 mb each, so they would probably choke up CS2 when it tried to create thumbnails.

Anything else about CS or CS2 I should know?

Not at all. Bridge does fine with my large files. (40 - 90 MB)
Once Bridge is up and running, it works fine for me.
What I don't like is that is a totally separate application, not a part of Photoshop. And it is the only choice Adobe offers for file browsing. So it is a little more work to access it. If you always have it open in its sub-compact mode, it's not as bad.
