Hi, I am looking for advice on which video cards/technology on Video cards are best for photoshop.
I don't really want to spend more than 500$ US

Which version of PS do you have? if it's CS2 check with Adobe first as it has some issues with some video cards, it's pointless buying one thats not compatable. wayne |

First off, I'll save you $500---don't spend $500 on a graphics card (aka video card, vga card etc.) just for photoshop. Secondly, don't spend $500 on a graphics card for anything. A graphics card is used mainly for graphic displays. A video card is for viewing video and minor 3D graphics (easy, low end games). A VGA (Video Graphics Accelorator) is for all of the above, along with video rendering and top end 3D gaming/3D programs.
If you don't do any serious gaming, a 64mb card will do you fine, and you can find one for between $50 and $75 dollars.
If you do play games, then go to a higher end card (256mb ddr ram, etc.).
Make sure that you have an AGP slot for one if you buy one. I'd recommend that you spend about $150-$200 on a 128mb ddr ram card, either the nVidia 6600gt or the ATI X800XL. Both good cards, and well under your $500 limit. You can mail me the extra money that I've saved you

Matrox cards are often recommended on the Adobe Photoshop forum. They seem to be one of the fastest 2D cards available and none of them seem to experience the graphic slowdown problems that some of the Photoshop CS2 users have to deal with. Don't expect great 3D performance with a card like this.
Btw, if you really want my advice; don't spend anything. Save your money, it's not worth updating your card just for Photoshop, you won't notice a major difference and spending $200 on a 3D like card like Steve recommended is just a waste of money if you only need the card for Photoshop.

Thankyou all for your responses. I'm up with the play on Gaming Cards, due to my status of 'Reformed Gamer' 
I want to be rendering REALLY REALLY BIG (Wall Sized) Images. So I guess I"m gonna find me a Matrox.

You'd be a lot more happy with 300 bucks spent on system RAM and 200 on video card than 500 on video card. As soon as you start getting into massive images, you'll notice that you'll want massive RAM.
