Posted: Tue Nov 22, 2005 6:50 am Post subject: Where'd my actions go?
I lost my actions. They just went away, maybe on vacation. I'd like them back, if possible. Even my default actions are gone. I had some custom actions that I'd like to get back too, because like a hefalump (not a bad word, it's from Whinney the Pooh) I didn't save them.
I restarted my computer yesterday, and photoshop went haywire. Told me that I was back to having the scratch disc on the same drive as windows, had no color profiles, no settings, no nothing, like I had just finished installing photoshop. No clue why.
I'm trying to avoid resetting the preferences (ctrl+alt+shift when starting photoshop), as I'd prefer to have my actions back instead. Worse case scenario, I'll reset the preferences. Best case scenario, some one can tell me what file to retrieve my preferences from.
EDIT: everything went away, my preferences, my settings, everything's gone. It's like I reset the preferences, even though I didn't, but my actions are the only thing that's not there now. I had to go back in and change all my settings in Edit>Preferences, except for the amount of RAM used by photoshop, that's the only thing that didn't change. Weird, to say the least. _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day.
Nevermind. I ended up reseting the prefs because I was going to end up doing it any way and I have to fight with my color for printing anyway, and I didn't want to have to fight with it twice in one day so I just scrapped the prefs and am now starting from scratch. Not much fun TBH. _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day.
Trashing your prefs won’t clear all your custom brushes or actions. It’s not that radical of procedure. Try it and see if it helps. But I think you got bigger problems. I’m a Mac guy from way back, so may not be much help to you.
It is best to have PS’s scratch disk as a second internal drive (solely dedicated as the scratch disk). If you just have one drive, try installing another. And make sure you are RAM happy.
(Or use this opportunity to get a new machine, CS2 and a new archival printer!)
edit: Oh, you posted as I was typing. But, advice stands. On any computer that has more than one user, it is common to trash prefs when starting an app. I do it often.

I'm not on a mac, but I used to be. Photoshop ran so smooth....so did the OS.....those were the days Now, I'm running winxp pro w/sp2 Could be worse I guess, I could be stuck using a commodore64!!!!!
I do have PS's scratch disc on a second drive; I have 2 80gb hdd's installed on this work station, and I'm the only one that uses it. Each of us has our own over priced system to use (your tax dollars hard at work!). I am RAM happy-->2gb's ddr400 pc 3200 (4 sticks 256), P4 3.06 cpu w/800mhz fsb etc. etc., and I have photoshop set to use 90% of it. I just can't figure out what happened to my actions that I made. I can get the default actions back, along with the other standard photoshop actions, but like I said earlier, I didn't save my actions that I had created, so they are gone forever DOH! Oh well, lesson learned!
The only thing that I could think of that would've messed things up was that I installed Adobe Acrobat Pro v7. That's the only thing that I've done, and come to think of it, my prefs went away the same day I installed Acrobat....hmmmmm...coincident? I think not! But why would Acrobat delete my prefs?
We've just switched directorates (new branch of management) and they'd like to know what new stuff we want. CS2 is on my list of goodies, but I want to know what printer....never mind, I'll make another post as to not have multiple topics in one post _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day.
