is it possible to use the Patch tool between two different photos, like putting the face from one photo onto the face from another? I have tried other ways but the results are poor.
Thanks in advance |

I know you can clone from layer to layer but I don't think you can heal from layer to layer...

Well, I just opened up 2 different images in photoshop 6, and cloned from one image to the other with no problems whatsoever. I would think that CS and other versions of photoshop would yeild similar results. Just alt+click on the image to want to clone (take) from, then click on the other image that you want to clone (add) to and go to town! Just make sure the the images are the same dpi, or it will clone and appear larger than the image you are cloning to. Did that make sense? _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day. |

I can use the clone tool between different pics but its the patch tool I would like to use, using the patch between different photos works like cut and paste, it wont let you move the cut immage around and then blend in with the surrounding pixels like it does if you work on one photo |

Yes you can do it. I just drew around a leaf and then using the move tool drag it onto another image, you can then resize it with free transform (edit free transform) Wayne |

Yes I can do that, but I want to use the patch tool, dragging the image does not give such a good blend of pixels around the transplant, as using the patch tool |

I don’t think that’s the tool you want to use. The Healing tools try to match the texture, lighting, and shading of the sampled pixels to the source pixels. Probably not the best method to replace one face with another. Try using the Selection Lasso to bring the face over in a new layer, then use a Layer Mask to blend in the edges. |

Agreed. If you get undesirable results, lower the feather (or raise depending on where you have it set at) to adjust the hardness of the lasso when you copy and paste. You can then use the clone tool to help to smooth out the edges around whatever you just pasted into your current image. Don't forget that you can adjust the opacity of the clone tool to make it blend less and appear less obvious. _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day. |

Yeah, don't use the Patch tool for that. Just select the face (get as much skin as possible) and use a layer mask to fuzz the edges, as cbadland suggested. If the colors are looking weird, use Levels and Color Balance to adjust. If you're still having troubles with colors, set the face's blending mode to Luminosity and use the Clone Stamp tool to make the original face a blank flesh color. Then use the brush tool (set to Color) to make color adjustments for the lips, eyes, hair, and skin tone variations.
