I wonder why? Maybe if you darkened them up, or even lighten them... try that..

I think people are trying to tread the fine between politeness and honesty.
In my opinion they are barely worthy of much critique. They are formulaic and filter-tastic. Looks like liquify filter and the second one pretty much the same with plastic wrap also applied. All in all they are uninspired.
Don't take my comments as a * off, rather a looking forward to some more constructive and considered work in the future. Starting off in a program or not, this is pretty tame stuff.

I agree with 'some' of what thehermit stated. Testing out filters is a stepping stone, but don't stop there. Push it. Take what you've already made and step it up. Allow your imagination to find an application.
