|
|
Hi all,
I spend a lot of my time in PS and lately my wrist and forearm have been bothering me. I am considering getting a Wacom Graphire 4 tablet type input device to alternate with my mouse to hopefully decrease the repetitive motion.
Does anyone have any experience or recommendations in this area?
Thanks in advance.

I'm going to pick up a Graphire 4 today and give it a try. I'll let you know my first impressions.

Explore the forums here and you'll find some detailed info on them. I use one at work every day and LOVE IT! Simply love it! Of course, if I had to buy one, I'd buy the cheaper of the two, as I believe that it would give me the same results as the more expensive one, just less bells and whistles that I don't really use anyway. Plus, the cheaper one is less sensitive, having like 500 levels of pressure, and the more expensive one has like 1048 levels of pressure. Even a pro artist would have troubles drawing 1048 different thckness (pressure) of lines on a piece of paper, let alone a tablet. Also, smaller is usually better. There's less travel (movement) of your hand and wrist from one side to another. EG., onle a few inches of movement from one side to the other with a 4x6 tablet, but a foot from side to side with a 10x12 tablet. Saves on the wrist and carple tunnell syndrome (sp?).
Lemme know if this helps or not, I can be more specific if needed. _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day. |

Definitely helps. I am getting the lesser expensive of the two anyway...to start with. You make a lot of sense with your comments about the pressures.
I'll keep you posted.
Again thanks.

I've been using the Graphire 4 for several hours now and so far it is great. As I mentioned I use Photoshop a lot and for my use this model will do fine.
My wrist and forearm feel better already!

Get a tablet. Just do it. You will NOT regret it.
I'd recommend an Intuos3 4x5, from Wacom. With tablets, size does not matter. I do digital paintings in PS with complex blending and detail work, and the 4x5 size doesn't place any limitations on my work.
I haven't used the Graphire4, but I'd suggest going with the Intuos if you intend to use the tablet for actual drawing or painting. The Graphires are more for photo touchups and amateur usage. It's up to you. If you are eligible for academic pricing, make sure you take advantage of it. _________________ Interested in showcasing your special effects or learning some new ones from the masters? So far I am very happy with it. Keep in mind I am using it not for drawing but as an alternative way of using Photoshop without it killing my wrist.
It's made a huge difference so far.

Good luck with it. Now my biggest regret is not getting one earlier. Good luck!
