I am new to Photoshop and i got a a question. lets say i have a pic of a car and i want to select only the car and blur out the background how can i do that? I have tried all sorts of selection methods but either it selects stuff i dont want or when i blur it doesn't come out straight the edges look cut.

personally, I'd use the pen tool. After you've finished drawing all the way around the car with the pen, you can convert it to a selection with a litle button in the paths palette. the nice thing about the pen tool for selecting a car is that a car is often made of many smooth curves. just fool around with the bezier handles and you can get it looking very nice. You may want to try the magnetic lasso too.
