Hi,
I am needing to know how to create a wooden log effect. I am using it for a border around an image. It needs to be spherical like a regular log, not flat. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanx Peter

I personally would look up a log on the internet..and work it until I like it..
but if you want to make one from scratch..heres some ideas..
make a circle, stroke it with a small dark brown Splatter brush (to make it rougher) go to selection > modify and contract 3-5 px and stroke with a even smaller light brown splatter brush. seelct the inside of the circle with the wand and enlarge the splatter brush to cover the entire circle and click once in the center with a darker color. go to the filters > blur radial > spin > 45 (this will make some lines in the center)

With the move tool narrow the sides of the circle, to make an elliptical shape

on another layer:
Make a rectangle marquee that goes out from the top of the circle to the bottom and pull out until you have your log length. then go filter > add noise > mono large noise. add motion blur in the direction of your log.

Select the circle layer invert and delete the rectangle (to make the front of the log. go to the back of the log and erase it in a circular motion...

This should get you started...if you have the eye candy 4000 plugin it has a wood simulation...

I've attached a very very simple log...

Or just find a log and work it until it's what you want...
You can shape it with the transform tools, color it with the gradient and make the rough edges with the burn/dodge tool.
