I need to be able to resize a number of images to different sizes.
I need to be able to quickly take an image of an arbitary width to height ratio and resize it to a number of different sizes with different width to height ratios. I need to make the images as large as they can get without clipping any of the image.
If I simply batch them, then some will be clipped in their longer dimension. Is there any way I can put logic into into a batch to check the ratio or at least skip the image in question?
I also have ImageReady. ImageReady takes conditionals, but I can't figure out how to get the images to open to their full size in ImageReady.
I spend a lot of time resizing images and I'm totally sick of it. I am extremely grateful for any help I receive.

Let me see if I have this stright, did you want picture A (for example) in a few different sizes, and be able to make C,D,E, etc all to the same sizes as A. Or did you want to make A, B,C, etc all to indivudial sizes depending on their quality or original size?. The first option could be done with an action, the second I think would be a lot trickier. Unfortunately, batching is like a simple older DOS program: It will only do what you tell it to. You'd have to create an action doing the different sizes (might be difficult, but I believe it can be done to what you want it to be). As far as having photoshop skip the horozontal (or verticle) images, my advice would be to go and rotate all the images so they are facing one way, then batch them. This way, they are all facing the same way, and will be batched identically. You might be able to rotate them in windows explorer, or you could use photoshop.
Hope this helps. _________________ All gave some, some gave all.....Lest we forget that war produces veterans, wounded both mentally and physically, and it is our job to help them now, as they have already helped us all in ways we will never know, and in ways that we take for granted every day.

It's the first one. But here's the problem: Let's say the orginal image A is 3000x1000 and the orginal C is 1000x3000. I want to resize to 600x300. To resize A I would have to change the image width to 600 and the increase the canvas height to 300 (because it would have automatically gone down to 200). To resize C I would have to first change the image height to 300 and then change the canvas width to 600.
If I were to use the procedure for A on C, or vice versa, I would clip the image. So I need a way for the action Photoshop to executed differently (or at least just stop or warn me) depending on the proportions of the orginal image.
I could do what I need in ImageReady, except I need a 300 dpi .pdf in the CMYK color mode.

Ahhh! now if you want them all to a maximum size of say 600 high and 600 wide so your portraits are 600 pix high and your landscape are 600 wide for say a web page (or whatever) my way would be to use Eazy Thumbnails by Fooks
It will do that with no problems, you just set the maximum hight and width of pic you want and it processes them in batches (it doesnt mind landscape and portrait mix) it will make copys to the size you want. if you need several different sizes, just change the size setting and run it again for the smaller or bigger sizes. The best bit is it's free software, and easy to use. It's what I use for my web photos, it will do a batch of about 50 pics (4mp) in about 30 seconds aprox. Here I have set it to make a folder of my pics 750 x750 pixels thats my landscapes 750 wide max and my portraits 750 high max.
I am a little confused about changing your 600 x 200 to 600 x 300 thats going to change the aspect ratio from 3/1 to 2/1 and is efectively streatching your pic in one direction, which is going to make it look odd. Do they have to fit a window or something? Wayne
I'll install it soon. Well I don't want to stretch my images, I want to pad them with white space. They have to fit a fixed size in a document.

Just an update. I used the Easy Thumbnails utility. I still need to mat my picture and make it a .pdf. However, I found that I can creat a small enough .jpeg with Easy Thumbnails and from there I can use Photoshop batches to make the final images. So it's two steps instead of one, but it's still a tremendous time saver. So thanks for the advice.
