Yes, I know, it's another one of them 'How do i do this ?' questions, but this has been annoying me for ages. Im really really curious on how to do style like the Windows XP icons, and some of the graphics on www.msn.co.uk

Here are a few examples...

I also wonder if there is a way to do styles like these...

Again, i've looked and looked but had no luck myself, hopefully any of you may have heard of a tutorial or style for these :)

Most of the icons in XP were done by the Icon Factory (better known for Mac icons). I think there is a MSDN article on the palette etc to use.

For the folders you are looking at a two point perspective drawing which means you need to draw guides and then sketch according to those guides. It really is a pencil and paper exercise to get your ideas down. Then transfer that by drawing similar sketches in something like Illustrator or Freehand. I find Illustrator better for this kind of thing because it allows you to create "Free Guides" which are lines you draw and then convert to guides.

You'll have to do your own searches on two-point perspective on Google. There are just way too many to list.
