Now that it's been out a while this seems a good time to ask.

To those of you who have upgraded to PS CS2...how good is it???

Worth the price???

What are the biggest differences???

Between CS and CS2? I really couldn't say. However, I do know that CS2 is AWESOME.

I was working with PS6 for several years, and I was never terribly disappointed with it. But I upgraded from version 6 to version 9 (CS2) a month ago, and I'm glad I did. If I'd been paying full price, maybe I wouldn't have bought it. But I qualify for academic pricing, so I went ahead.

The new features in CS2 include a Vanishing Point tool for perspective editing (very cool, although I haven't had use for it yet), a file browser called Adobe Bridge, the ability to select and manipulate multiple layers (EXTREMELY USEFUL!), and Smart Objects (allow you to apply transformations to layers without losing information). Since I was used to PS6, I got to enjoy all the new features from PS7, CS, and CS2.

Seriously consider upgrading if you've got the money. If you qualify for academic pricing, don't hesitate!

As data said, the perspective tool is amazing. On the photoshop cs2 website there is a video that show how you can lay out perspective points on a flat deck (very easily) and clone deck boards in perspective. it's amazing. Smart objects are not worth the money of upgrading I'd say, I'd be content to just not over-downrezz my stuff in the first place.

As for bridge, it's the lamest thing ever. it replaces the browser in CS, so now it opens a whole other program. bridge takes forever to start up, it's thumnail view is only a tad batter than windows explorer and definately not better than OSX's finder.

There are a few changes to the way the layer palette works. They have removed that little box for linking layers, so now you have to shift-click on layers and click a link button at the bottom. I liked the old way batter.

To be honestI don't remember what changed from 7 to CS, so I can't say about that.

Not worth the upgrade price.

I'm afraid I argree with Teddc, it's not worth the upgrade.

Theres not enough really new in it compared with CS, and what there is can mostly be done fairly easily other ways (eg vanishing point filter, can be duplicated more or less by using a selection copy and paste and free transform) and it's not something you'll use every day anyway!

Then theres the issues with CS2, it seems to suffer from running slow, some people seem to have colour problems, the bridge can take minutes to open (mine does) and it has a reputation for freezes and crashes that other versions almost never suffered from, there are several pages of things to try to "fix" these problems on Adobes web site.

Personaly I have gone back to CS which is so much quicker and smoother, maybe they will get it sorted out by CS3, if they don't I think it could damage their reputation. Wayne

CS doe seem to do stuff a bit quicker. Re-sizing windows, for instanfce. In CS if I gaba window and drag to resize, it moves smoothly. IN CS2 if I do that, the movement is cjoppy and broken up. Bridge take maybe 10 seconds to open on my amd athlon 2500+.
