whats the difference between these 2,flatten image and merge visible, and is it necessary to do this before saving it to a jpeg or something? |

You save as jpeg it automatically flattens the image it is not an option to have a layered jpeg.
The merge visible vrs flatten..no real dif. except that most people like to keep the original picture (as taken) as the bottom layer and work a copy.
So once they are done they turn off the original layer and merge the rest. this way you always keep the original intact. If you "flatten" the layers the original is lost (over-written)
Couple of tricks:
Shift + Ctl + E merges layers
Alt + clicking the layer eye closes all other layers |
