The extract tool works best with smoke and hair...but it will extract other things just as well.

Use a small brush and select smart highlight it helps. Remember the extraction happens within the "highlight area"..what ever has the fill tool will not be touched.

Ok so if the extraction messes up a little just click on the history brush and paint in what ever is missing.
very clean very easy.
