I have a project that I have to shoot on a green screen. I am a film maker that uses Final Cut Pro and understands chroma key in the video world pretty well. Do I just select the green with the magic wand and delete? Are there any secrets that will give me a better finished result?
This is for the outside of a retail box and has to look pretty good. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I use Photoshop CS, on a mac platform

if the subject isn't casting any shadows the magic wand tool might work just fine! if not you would probably have to select the green in another way and color or delet it! also, if you have done this take the magic wand tool and selct the area you have just deleted, and the go to select>modify>expand and expand 2 or more pixels then you might want to select>feather it for about 3 or more pixels and then you could give it a very light coloring to go with the background! it's not always needed but sometimes the envirement casts not only shadows or lights but also colors! that's where it might help!

There are better methods if you shot on a green screen. Best results would come from making a mask based on a channel. See the pdf tutorial- “Making Masks from Channels” at:

Indeed, if you were smart when you were shooting you didn't wear any of that green colour, so simply filter it out and you will get a fine selection each frame. I wish I could afford the equipment for more video work. As is I make a short film about once a year by borrowing stuff. heh.

Channels is how I know alot of people do it but for some ungodly reason I've never suceeded at it...I will give the tut a chance.
PS allows for may ways to select a color...the extract tool is one of the ways. It is a very under rate tool that can do some amazing extracts.
the attached picture was isolated using the extract tool.
I used these settings in extract tool: size brush 13 / check smart highlight. go around the head follow the loose hairs etc. filled
Another way is to use the "Select Range" under select.
pick the green background...if it doesn't pick it all up move the fuzzy slider around...ok the selection will appear.
