alright, my first question was how to tile a background and that was answered quickly and now I can do that, my only problem is now when I do it my image comes out smaller than it should. The first one I did came out fine and the image size was set at 1/2", now when I set my image at 1/2" and then I tile them they are all coming out a lot smaller than 1/2".
can someone help me figure out why this is happening? thanks, I hope this is clear enough of a description to understand!

Try unchecking "resample image" in the image size dialog box when you change it's size.

I unchecked resample image and that helped, but didn't fix the problem. I don't get it, the first one I did worked perfectly, but now it doesn't. For instance, if I have my new layer size at 7.5" square and I use an image that I have sized at .75" then I should end up with 30 tiles of that image, well, I just tried that exact thing again and I got more like 400 images and I had the image size at 3/4". How and why can this happen and please help me to fix it.

How many dpi have you set for the new image? this will affect the number of tiles. Wayne |

How many DPI should it be? I will look at the one that worked and compare it to the 20 that haven't and let you know what it was. I assume dpi is the same as pixels, I don't think I had the option of dpi, but I will see. Thanks!

With the image that you are going to tile, go to Image>Image size. Look at where it says "Resolution" (towards the bottom left). It should have a number in the first box, then say pixels/inch in the second box. Remember the number in the first box (the pixels/inch). Make your new canvas (File>New). You'll come up with a box, and towards the bottom is another "Resolution" box. Make sure that the number in that box matches the one in the other box (the one I told you to remember). Hopefully that helps you.

generally if you have a bunch of images that will be merged together at some point, just keep 'em all at the same resolution. I use 72 for everything while I work if it's for web, 300 for print.

Thanks for the compliment bro  Just glad to know that I (we) could help. Be sure to keep coming back to the forums to read up on other stuff, as you'll learn tons and be answering our questions in no time flat!

Thanks Gallo and steve. I hope to be able to answer questions at some point, There is so much cool stuff that can be accomplished. The 300 and 72 pixel thing helps a lot too, I just tried to save one at 872 and my whimpy computer wouldn't respond. I need a better computer soon. I am glad you guys are here and willing to help!
