When did you start in design/development?

I made my first website I think in 1998. One page Angelfire, ugly ugly ugly, page. I started "professionally" developing in the fall of 1999 and I registered ifroggy.com on 1/1/00.

I started in web development in '99 when we started 2BigFeet.com. I had been in graphic design for several years but hadn't even thought of web design. My soon-to-be business partner asked me if I thought I could design and develop a website... and so the journey began Big Grin I started buying books about web design, HTML, Photoshop for the web, etc. and just read everything I could find online and off...

I started with programming on an old computer, then discovered that I liked designing things rather than programming, so I started playing with paintshop pro and eventually got into photoshop :)

I, like Patrick, had my first site about 3 or 4 years ago on Angelfire. It was one long page with random stuff about me and my friends. Then I bought PhotoImpact and began to make personal sites with that. I had a different site about every couple days. Big Grin

Then I got Fireworks 4, and that's when I really dove into the design scene. I played around with it all the time and eventually began to get a few clients here and there. I finally got Photoshop a few months ago and have been using both it and Fireworks since then. :)

I went to college (technical school, actually) in 1997, right out of high school. After a year or so, I dropped it for various reason, some legit, some not. I had been studying computer graphics and design. I stayed active with Photoshop (had bought it for school) for a few years then decided to take up websites. I learned most of HTML in a couple weeks and got a job with it a month later in Dallas. That was June of 2000. Been doing it ever since.

I actually found a copy of my first "website" a while back and uploaded it Eek

I still love designing, but focus alot on programming these days.

Let's say I started looking at HTML in January 2000 and launched my first serious site in June 2000. First got the basics down on HTML, then the inevitable SSI. Around one and a half year ago my host started installing PHP and MySQL and well, that's where I am now. Learning PHP and MySQL.

I find designing a lot harder than programming. Programming has right or wrong, something designing does not have.
