I'm not sure if it's been said, but changing your dpi will have absolutely no effect on file size. Don't even look at it. It's only for printing.

? Hmmmm....kinda right. Depends on if you have "resample image" checked or not. For photography, I always have it checked, so it resamples the image, and makes it larger or smaller in file size. As far as making it smaller or larger, there are a variety of filters that will make a file size larger, like unsharp mask for example (more noticable when saving as a jpeg). For work, our raw image is 300 dpi, and 47.6mb in size. When I crop it as a 4"x6" @ 300 dpi, the file size drops to about 9mb as a tiff, then when I save it as a jpeg, still 300 dpi, @ 9 (on the "save as" jpeg sliding scale thingy), it's between 280 and 310k in size. If I apply unsharp mask and try to save it at the same size jpeg (9), it jumps up to usually 380 to 450k in size. Man, all this web stuff is a pain!

For web-bound work, best to ignore ppi and just look at pixel dimensions.
(and let’s keep the terminology consistent: use “ppi” when describing pixel size in an electronic image and “dpi” in relation to ink dot size of printed images. You can have many ink dots per pixel.)

I forgot to mention "resample image" If it's unchecked, it won't effect file size, if it is it will.

My bad. I know what I meant to say Big Wink It's just that I deal with printing photos and using "dpi this" and "dpi that" every day, so it's become rather habitual... Eek
