I'm having some issues with Photoshop as of late. When ever I save a .gif with a translucent background that has shadow or something similiar, it doesn't save right. It ends up looking moreso with a border than a shadow or whatever.
You can see what I mean on my logo here: http://footballerffl.proboards20.com/index.cgi
See at the top of "Footballer" it has those white pixels which should be more of a shadow effect... No matter what I do, I can't get it to save right. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

I've never been able to get gifs to quite looks right with that shadow effect, but I've recently discovered the beauty of PNG's...it was explained to me once how PNG's look better than GIF's with things such as this...but I can't think of that now...so...my suggestion, use .png for all your transparent shadow needs. _________________ A.D. |

Wow, awesome. That worked perfectly. I had no idea .png worked with transparency.
Thanks a lot! |

There's a simple (though counter-intuitive) reason for that. GIFs support only two transparency levels: 0% and 100%. Therefore, you cannot create translucent effects with GIFs. Try 50% opacity; it just doesn't work. It will not save that way as a GIF.
PNGs, on the other hand, support a wide range of transparencies. Basically, you can use transparency just as you would in a normal PSD file without losing that information.
Of course, there's just a tiny problem--Internet Explorer for Windows doesn't support transparency this way. It just makes everything opaque or completely transparent when you view in IE. _________________ Interested in showcasing your special effects or learning some new ones from the masters? Great... so anybody viewing my forum using IE won't see it right. Is there any way to fix this small problem? |

MSIE 7 will (supposedly) support png-24. Microsoft IE Windose has been the lone browser holdout on 8-bit transparency support for png. There is a plug-in for MSIE 6 that will allow png-24, but I don’t know the details. Until then… use gif with the proper matte color? |

Yeah, I tried messing with the matte. It's not exactly what I wanted, but I may just have to deal with it.
Thanks for your help everyone. |

No problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! I know, I don't like GIFs. Their practical in some cases, but I still cringe every time I have to use 'em. _________________ Interested in showcasing your special effects or learning some new ones from the masters? Check out PSFX! |
