Hi

I'm using Photoshop CS (mac).
When I do a save as... and get the jpg options box up..I select my quality size and at the bottom it tells me what the file size should be.
Problem is that the file size it actually ends up being after I hit save is double what the box said!!

I'm concerned because I'm saving images at a 3 (my dialog box saying it is 73.1k) and ending up with an image that is 144k!
EEK
If I try to save as a 2 the image looks bad so I can't go that low.

Any advice on why this is happening?
Thanks!

Use "Save for Web" to remove metadata and thumbnail information from your jpg file. It's that extra information that is increasing your file size.

So what is an example of metadata?

I have noticed that when saving JPEGS, only thumbnail previews, and embedded color spaces add to the file size.

Is there more?

All the Camera EXIF data, Camera Raw info, Edit History, copyright, keywords, annotations… a lot of little things that are stripped with Save for Web function.
