I could claim that I was trying to send a message with this - it would make a decent PSA about alcoholism, for instance - but really, I was just trying to make something cool out of a bunch of random snapshots from a party.

The base image is an abstract close-up of a beer bottle. I added a bunch of distorted faces, using a variety of blending modes and layer masks.

would have a better and bigger impact if the bottle was more distisguishable. Otherwise, very impressive

Not bad, but something seems to bother me about it, I think it's the foam level, it's stops in the middle, splits the image in half, which in general doesn't lead to a strong composition and I think that's the case with this image. I also think that an image should speak for itself. Without your comments I wouldn't have known what it was (or the intention) and I'm pretty sure it would have lost some of its strength. Anyway, that's just the way I look at it ;)

I think it does speak for itself, pretty much. That's why I said it isn't an alcoholism PSA or anything of the sort, just an attempt to make something interesting. Or did you mean that you couldn't tell it was a beer bottle with faces in it? It's pretty abstract, but I don't think it's too hard to figure out that it's a bottle with some sort of carbonated beverage in it - maybe it's easier at full size.

As for composition, I can see how it could be considered bad form to have a strong line through the middle of an image, but here it divides the shot into a light region and a dark one. Is that usually considered bad as well? I'm self-taught, so I don't know much theory, but I've seen plenty of shots - in particular, landscapes with the horizon about halfway up - in which there's a division in the middle.
