Looks like you've discovered the threshold option. I love it too. However, the thing that makes it look good is that it is harsh, raw, high contrast.
In both cases, you've undermined that advantage; in the first, by choosing a subdued colour scheme, and in the second, by using a gradient background and by blurring the bottom of the car.
If you're going to use threshhold, be consistent with that harsh, pen-and-ink look. The typography is okay, but everything else has to be brought in line with that look. |
