Hello,
I am extremely new to Photoshop, and I am having some trouble with colors.
Lets say I wanted to type the words "Coming Soon". Here it is:
Now I want to change it to a red color, so I highlight it:
Now I go up to the toolbar at the top and I click the rectangle:
And then I move the circle cursor over to the red that I want:
And then click "OK". But the text is still grey:
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance! |

Change the color mode of your image to RGB? (Image>Mode>RGB) |

lol kodaks that's not the way it works at all,
to change the color of an image you need to make a selection of the area you want to color, then you can use tools such as paint bucket or brushes etc..
you can also go to image>adjustments>hue/saturation or color balance, and since the background is white you don't even have to select the typing if you leave the lightness at 0 that is!
this is one of the dozen other ways you can change color on an image, i suggest you search for "color" in photoshop help!
btw, the selection you have made there, is that done with the type tool??
if so, the color you have chosen will affect only new typing because you created a new type layer! so you don't affect any underlaying layers!

When you select the type tool and bring it on the canvas you will notic that it has a doted square box around it but as you move it to the edge of the previously typed text this doted square box vanishes. So select the old text when this doted box is not there and change the color.Here the old text is selected and no new text layer is formed. |

Moi, what are talking about, I don't understand your reply.  He's quite obviously typing text with the type tool, look at the screenshots, especially the 3rd one.
Cbadland is right; I would also check first to see whether RGB is selected.
It might also be that you haven't selected the text properly. Make the layer active that contains the text by clicking on it, select the type tool in the tool bar, select the color in the options bar and click OK. |

Thanks, that seemed to work!
One other question:
I have a .png image that I would like to blur out some parts of it for privacy reasons. How can I do that with photoshop? I don't just want to paint over the parts that I don't want to show, I would like it to look more professional with one of those blurred effects. Thanks! |

One way to do it;- open the image
- add a new layer
- grab the blur tool in the tools bar
- set the correct size, set it to soft, 100% and make sure that Use All Layers is checked.
- on this new layer click where you need the blur and hold down the mouse button until you like what you see
Advantage of this method; you won't damage the original image. |
