|
|
Hi hope someone can help?
I'm not very good at explaining, but here goes...
im working on an image at the moment of a girls face. I was using the Polygonal lasso tool to create the separate areas like eyes etc or sections of skin to highlight or darken - then shading them in, but I didn't like the fact that I couldn't get nice curved edges. So started using the pen tool, but every time I try to colour it in. It says the areas not editable > I don't get it and im probably not explaining it well. When I look in the layers palette it seems linked to I don't know? another box that wants me to select a colour, but I don't want to shade it in as a solid and when I try to use the paintbrush to colour the specific area that i'd just drawn with the pen tool it seems to want to colour everything but that area...what am I missing...? been up most of the night. So can someone put me out my misery...
Thanks for any advice! |

To change the color of a particular area here is what I do:
First select the area (just see even rough selection is OK)=>select menu
=> Select color range => just click on the color you want to shade or change
=>click OK this selects the color range in the selected area. Then try out changing/shading using various settings(hue /saturation, color balance and others to get what you want) in adjustment menu under image menu.
I hope this helps.
About the link of the layer to other box if I am not wrong I think when you used pen tool to make selection select the paths tab on the option bar on the top instead of the shape layers tab, then you will have no link nor no new layer is formed. |

Thanks for getting back to me Rose!
It was already on the path tab instead of shape layers. So I'm still not sure?
I did a test on a new background. New layer. Pen tool. Basic triangle. I tried using the arrow to move it but it won't move. I can't select it. I tried the range colour which I'd never used before, but nothing really happened. Maybe your supposed to use the pen tool for something else? I just thought you could draw with it? Then for example as im working on some cell shading for skin tone at the moment I'd colour it a flesh colour then using a brush give it some darker edges... |

To move pen tool use path selection tool to scale the shape(that is just above the pen tool);use direct selcetion tool the move/give curve to a single anchor point.
And to convert the pen tool path to selection go to path palatte(windows menu =>path) in the path palatte click on the smallround button with the triangle (on the right top) from the menu select make selection this changes the pen tool path to selection.
For coloring:try to select a brush with blur edges or
reduce its opacity to lighten it.or
copy paste the celected area you want to change in a new layerthen try out the different modes (in the layer palette where it is normal next to opacity) this will blent the new changes with the layer below. or
you can use clone stamp tool to pick color from oter area and apply it where you want to;
To use clone stamp tool:
1st select stamp tool =>select the brush type ,I prefer using the one with blur egdes =>Alt + click on the color area you want to select the color
=>then apply it to the area you want to change.(if needed try changing blend modes or opacity of the brush). |
