how do i deslect stuff on car that i dont want colored? please help

ctrl+D delects everything. if you want a car go around it with some sort of lasso. the thing is,there is no deselect button.
if you have the outline of a car selected and you want to make the headlights un selected you do this(or anything unselected)
1 press ctrl+shift+I to inverse your selection
2 you select the part that you want to not get colored or deleted(say the head lights)
3 press ctrl+shift+I to inverse your selection and the part that you just selected a second ago is now un selected:) |
