what do you mean by that? do you mean something like shadows??

(ill post this link once i find it, ill edit this post, give me a min)

if you want it like that, use a 3-d render and make part of it coming out over the border, pretty simple that way

all you have to do is put the view so youcan see both
the background and render then drag the render into the BG.
and make shoure your using a transparent canvas.
it could look wierd in black themed sites i you dont.

the way I do it is that I make my background first but dont color it, then I make my canvas bigger with Image - Canvas Size, I make it as big as I need it to make my render stick out, but make sure you have a transparent layer on the bottom before you do that, you may have to duplicate your background layer and delete the locked one if it is locked.
then I cut out the render i want and paste it in, then move it into position, after that, I usually add some other effects etc.

Color, light, contrast, depth, composition, etc, these are all things that can make an image stand out, focus on that.

I think he means that he wants it to look like the render is ACTUALLY popping out of the sig, you know, like a 3-D effect. Shadow uses it a ton. It's a cool effect.
