Refraction is a lot catchier and also less cheesy, but I would leave the Studio part of the name out.

There are a few routes to go on naming a fledgling company, let me outline a few (tongue in cheek cannot be discounted).

Picking Random names that are quirky but ultimately have no connection or relevence, the latter is of real importance. Hence I shall give some examples, there are of course various techniques, here I shall start with a random colour and a random animal.... Purple Iguana - there you go it's as easy as that, you can just append it with Design Studio's or some other suitable phrase that let's people know what the hell you do - obviously when you get stacks of contracts and are on the covers of Design Journals you can drop the Design Studio from your name, if you are really famous you could just drop the name from your logo altogether and just become an image!

Of course there can be the even more bizzare and poncy option of just using your own names or some nom de plume and just adding a dot com. Sure to make people think that you are HUuuge in the design world,, obviously you will want to link to popular design sites like surfstation without asking permission because it boosts your design skills to even know of them.

The real crux of the matter is, don't oversell yourself in the name of the business. Don't call yourself a Design Studio, if in fact you don't have studio space or an office that customers can walk into. A home or bedroom enviroment may be fine, but it's not exactly geared towards client contact.

Depending on what services you offer should determine the name and the focus of that name. If you offer print services and web services you could highlight that someway in the name, you may want to do it with the tagline and still focus on the name of the business, something like... Refraction - Bespoke designs for Print and New Technology Media. This would lead you to focus on a logo image.

There is of course the old truth of being too close to a project to effectively manage and solve the problems of creating a corporate image. You should really hire someone else to design your logo and/or logotype, consult with them to get an effective result.
