In WindowsXP
Right click on file
Properties
shows such things as Created, Modified, Accessed dates

In Photoshop CS
File
File Info
Camera Data 1
shows Camera make/model, Date Time, Shutter Speed, F-stop, Aperture, etc.

Is there a way to search on the Photoshop Camera Data 1?

Sure, do the search from Photoshop's File Browser.

Either there is a lot more to Browse than readily meets my eye or I didn't state my question clearly enough. Maybe both. Example: I have a group of images (osprey landing on her nest) named "xyz-0001-ORIG" thru "xyz-0300-ORIG". Say, I edit 1 of those images and SaveAs "Osprey". Days later I realize that I didn't include the image number when saving. I want to rename the "Osprey" to "xyz-???? Osprey", but I don't know the number (for ????). I can't visually check the thumbnails. Remember these are 300 images taken on a tripod, using motor drive, of a the same bird landing on the same nest in the same tree.

From "Camera Data 1" I know that the image was taken 2005-02-22 at 14:23:03. I found the ORIGinal image (& number) by doing a "manual binary search". Open file xxyz-0150-ORIG & check the datetime that the image was taken. If its datetime is after the datetime of "Osprey", close #0150, open #0075. If datetime is earlier, open image half way between #0075 and #0150, etc. Each time going up or down, half way, depending on whether the datetime is before or after.

If I could "search" on the "Camera Data 1", I could simply key the datetime for "Osprey" to locate the file that has a matching datetime. If the datetimes could be "printed" to a text file (non Photoshop), I could visually review the list and quickly locate the appropriate file.

Oops! There was "Search" staring me in the face when in PS Browser. I couldn't see the forest for the trees (or maybe it was the birds). Thanks for your quick response. I still have problems tho'. The Date Created only accepts mm/dd/yyyy (which isn't nearly specific enough for me), but I still don't locate any files.

If I understand your question right, File Browser will do that.
Looking for a picture taken at the exact time of 14:23:03? Open File Browser, under Search menu (little binocular icon) select the folder you want to search and type in “14:23:03” in the EXIF Metadata Criteria.

(edit) We cross-posted. Yes, the exact time can be found searching EXIF Metadata.

Thanks. My mistake was assuming (there's that awful word again) that subdirectories were searched. After navigating down to the correct folder I found what I wanted.
