You'd like to apply watermarks to images? There are a variety of ways to do this. Some are much easier for other people to remove; others are nearly impossible to remove.

The easiest way is to simply create your watermark layer and set it to an opacity of about 50%. This is pretty easy for other people to manually remove, so don't use this method if you want a truly permanent watermark.

A permanent watermark, by nature, destroys pixel information. The question is: how do you destroy enough information to make the watermark difficult to remove, and yet leave enough information to make the picture meaningful to a client or viewer?

Here's what I'd recommend. Create a new white document, about 15x15 pixels, zoom WAY in, and create a random scattering of black pixels using the Pencil tool. You want about half of the pixels to be black, half of them white. Select All and go Edit>Define Pattern.

Now go to your image you want to watermark. Create the watermark layer however you want. Now create a new channel and go Edit>Fill. Select Pattern in the dialog box and choose your black and white pattern. Hit OK. Control-click the channel's thumbnail; you should see a selection of marching ants all over the image. Go back into RGB and find your watermark layer. Shift-control-alt-click that layer's thumbnail. The marching ants should be confined to the shape of the watermark. Create a new layer and fill it with a color of your choice. Go ahead and deselect. Now just play with blending modes and opacity until you find a result you like.

Good luck! And about plug-ins--well, I'm sure there are plenty for watermarks, but I don't know of any.
