I would like to edit a picture of mine, but I am unsure if Photoshop is capable of what I need. I have a picture of a swimming pool with a stoned base. I want to change the type of stones in the picture with a different type of stones that I have in a small jpeg. Is it possible to replace all of the stones in the actual picture with these other ones, or will the picture look fake or stupid? 
What makes it more difficult is that the stones are underwater, so if i were to replace the current stones, the new ones would need to be edited so it looked like they were under water.
Also, because I only have a small jpeg, the stones would need to be tiled or something like that, and that is sure to make the picture look silly.
I want it to look as real as possible.
I am sure that this is possible in some way, but is photoshop the correct package for this? I know there are other adobe packages available. |

i'm sure that its possible with photoshop, but the level of difficulty is gonna be high depending on the quality of the jpeg you'll be using to replace the stones, and mimicing the underwater "look". Can you post the image so we can get a better idea? |

I don't have the actual swimming pool picture on this computer, so I have put up an example picture, just so you can understand what I mean. http://public.fotki.com/talksr/swimming_pool_pictu/example_1.html (same password)
In the picture, the pool floor is all blue, I wish to replace the blue floor with my stone boarder. And by floor, I actually mean the sides of the pool too.
In the actual picture I have, the floor is already floored with stones, and I wish to replace the current stones with some from my border stones.
The border stones picture is quite small, so there could be a problem with getting them to look right.
I also agree with you that the mimmicing of the underwater look will be quite difficult. |

Put it all on a different layer, increase the saturation of the cyan colour in the water and then reduce the opacity to taste so it looks not only more realistic but also lets some of the surrounding reflections back in.
