Hi all,

I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what the fair market value is for hourly work in digital imaging. Specifically what should one be paid as a freelance imaging person doing retouching (ie. correcting double chins, flabby arms, removing distracting elements [ie. garbage, signs, etc.], etc.), color correcting, B & W conversion, toning, spotting for digital spots, doing some design work (designing pages for wedding albums), editing image selections for an event [ie. weddings or corporate event]? Does anyone have an idea. All of the work is in PS. Any info would be much appreciated.

I did restoration work some time ago, trying to make a business of it. I even had a major photo lab ( as opposed to mini-lab) as a supplier of work.
However the time needed to correct and restore the photos to customer requirement did not warrent the price I had to charge to get the job.
If I was charging say $A80.00/hr and sometimes spending 4 hrs restoring a photo =$A320, most clients would baulk at such a price. Most wanted to pay no more than $A50.00 for 2-4 hrs for a job

I would think you could charge what the market demands. Start say $90-$80/hr, then drop your price until you reach a market price for you skills and time. You will soon get the hang of it.
