Hi, I am new here. I work in a photo lab and while I was at training for my new machine, the teacher gave me basics of photoshop. She showed me how to take a cartoon character and cut around him and save it as a transparent file so I could then add him to any photo that I wanted.

Unfortunately I don't remember how we saved it. I know it can be done because I did it before. I am currently trying to do this again and can not figure it out. Every time I flatten the layers the transparent part goes white. It needs to be saved as a jpeg.

I opened the file, made a new layer w/ transparent and used the magic wand to cut around the character. I thought that we just flattened the layers and saved them, but apparently not. Any Ideas how I did this before??
TIA, saycheese

You need to save a as different file format. JPG doesn't support transparency of any kind. Try using a PNG or TIF.
