Hi guys and girls. Ive got a new sony vaio laptop http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/Sony-VAIO_PCG_K215M-laptop-1-nd2.htm

It came with photoshop elements and i cant even do simple text effects without the error msg appearing...not enuf ram to complete the task. As u can see from the link above its a pretty decent spec laptop....so why do sony give u software u cant use. Am i doing things right...

Also on that link above ive just found out that i may be able to upgrade it to 1000 plus Ram. Would that be a good idea...and how much would i be looking at to practically double my Ram ??

Hope to hear from u soon... :P

First thing I'd do is increase your virtual memory. Can't remember exactly how, but look around in your control panel (maybe under System) This is an important first step with any new computer.

Ok ive found it and you were right it is under system in control panel. Now it says the following :

Total paging file size for all drives 670MB

It says recommended 670 which it is at...i can change it to a maximum of 1344MB

I aint to sure on this paging thing apparantly got something to do with some space on the hard drive being used as RAM

Could u tell me if i should increase it or what ?

Cheers thanks for ur help...i love photoshop and i just want it to work :P

Try looking at these:

your scratchdisk: (edit/preferences/plugins & scratchdisks)
Do you have one?

your memory usage: (edit/preferences/memory & image cahcing) Which % do you have it at?

scratchdisk should be a disk (if possible) other than the one the program (ps) is on.

Mem usage seems ok.

Your RAM seems to be doing fine, although there's little drawback to increasing it to the max (you lose some HD space, no big deal) for games and stuff.
