I'm new to photoshop. I have tinkered with it for a few years so I know some of the basics but nothing too advanced.

I have an image that i'd like to remove the background from or just cut the image from the photo to add it to another image i'm working on. I usually would use the Lasso Tool and cut around the edge the best I can. In this case I want to get it as perfect as I can.

Any suggestions or even a link to a tutorial would be great. Thanks!

Try using the "Extract" option available under the Filter menu.
You can refer to Photoshop Help if u have problems understanding how to use it.

Try using the bezier pen tool. Trace around the extracted portion as a path and use the path to make your selection.

Bezier looks intimidating at first and it takes one project to get used to it but it's very intuitive and very easy to use. It's very very useful. It gives you a cleaner selection than what you can accomplish with any other selection method. Plus, it's good for when you want to embed clipping paths into your EPS files.

Just trace along the object you want to select and use the white arrow (Direct Selection Tool) or the Convert Point Tool to refine your path.

Something that will help you out: try not to use too many points on your path because it's harder to manage with more points. Use as few points as you need.
