Hello,

I am having a hard time making a layout for my personal website where I put my best work samples, stuff about me and so on. This is for my high school web design class. I want it to look dynamic, something that is unique.

This is my website that I have right now but I don't like the layout and the colors of it now. http://eportal.guhsd.net/kk126992/eport/index.html

The theme that I would like to go with is "technology"

Question in my mind-

What should I put on my banner?
What color theme would be the best fit for a personal website? (I like navy blue but I don't know if that would work)
Stuff like those questions.

Please give me some suggestions or website that you made that looks cool.

I would like to use flash but not to much. Mostly for the navigation.

I already looked at other websites and web templates but there is not anything that I like or that catches my eyes.

Thanks

This is a personal website.

In my opinion, personal websites, do not follow the "web guru's" design rules. They are a representation of how YOU are as a person and what you want your clients/employer's to see about yourself.

To get colors, layout, or the general "feel" of a website you need to ask yourself first: What do I want this website to do for me?

Honestly, simply put, what do you want this website of yours to do for you?

What do you want it to offer the public? What kind of words would describe the image you want to portray?

My personal website is at www.halarewich.com, but Im not so sure it will help you with anything.

its also true that you need to have a pleasing design to be taken seriosuly
i mean we;ve all seen a website that has an animated gif as the background image
fifty animated gif's spread through out the page and absolutely no consideration to style or ease of use

it would be nice to say
do whatever pleases you, but the last thing the web needs is a million pages no one but the creator can stomach

similarly, art that doesnt give a nod towards academic tradition will find itself not succeeding either

I agree with these guys...i would like to add something that might help. when it comes to web designing, u should keep the graphics file size small. and for high interactivity, try using flash... Brow

It's also important to stick with a unified visual theme. You already seem to be doing that, but just keep that in mind as you make changes. The same style should be consistent throughout.
