I am new to photoshop many told me that layers form a great role in photoshop.Is there any one please tell me why exactly the layers will help and what is their role.layers means what???

Ok. Pretend you're looking at a mountain scenery. There's trees, mountains, a lake, rocks, wildlife, etc. If I were working with an image that had all these components, I'd like them all to be on different layers. So if I decided that the wildlife made the image look to cluttered, I could delete the wildlife layer. Or if I wanted to add some more blue into the mountains, I could select the mountains layer and simply add more blue.
Layers also control the order of your components in an image. The top most layer in your pallette will be the very top layer in your document.

Imagine you have many sheets of transparent acetate film each with an image on it all sitting on top of your main picture.
You could easily put images or text on various sheets, change the colours or add different items, then when you where happy with the result, blend them all together into a single picture.
This is the power of layers
