all i can say it, some effects look cool, but dont look cool when used
for instance gradients are cool. but you dont just toss one up

I know you can go through with the font and use the magic wand to select all the filling, delete it, then put a layer underneath for your picture.
It may not give you everything you want it to, but for simply things, you can do it.

the problem there of course is ragged lines
what about juyst going in with layer effects?
