Just sayin hey first off!

Now as from question, I was making a websitefrom flash and decided to create some of the interface using photoshop. Most people might say i should just do the whole thing in photoshop, but I'm still new to it and can do a much better job in Flash so far.

Well, I'm tryin to make the basic navigation bar, and learned how make it shiny and metallic looking and all that fun stuff, but I'm not tryin to create a menu bar. I want a different looking menu, almost like a crescent shapeand my question is how do I create that shape? I try by creating circles and going from there but the program won't let me delete the excess circle, and when using the marquee tool... well I'm just not that great with that either, I can't get it to stop selecting the object I created so I can move it around (i.e. circle)

How do I create my own shapes? Flash made it easy with it's drawing tool, and shaping to sharp edges or smooth edges when you drew. Is there anything like this is photoshop? Or anyone have any suggestions on desiging completely new shapes and all?

Thanks for your help!

Create a circle or ellipse. Fill with any color.
Create another shape on another layer. DO NOT DESELECT
Go to your filled layer and hit the delete button.
Save this shape as a mask.
Delete layers
Create new layer and add mask
