My first post here! This seems like a really good place.

I'm currently doing a school project. Basically, I have to design a poster for a film. Everybody else's doing it with pens and stuff...I'm using Photoshop, naturally. Big Grin

I know a shop downtown that can print stuff out for me, and I will be going to print an actual full-size film poster. I would suppose that the typical size is around 3'x4'...I'm worried about the transformation from Photoshop image to actual poster, as I've found out that whenever an image is enlargened, or made smaller, the pixels go crazy and everything seems jagged.

What size of canavas should I design on in Photoshop to ensure that the poster print-out will be decent?

Thanks in advance for the help!

What resolution are you going to be printing it at?

Not sure exactly. I should have mentioned that in my question. Basically, all I want is the best quality possible...

Find out from the printer what 'screen ruling' they will be using. It may be 100 to 133 lpi (lines per inch) for an image that size. Multiply thge lpi by a factor of 1.5. As rule of thumb that will give you the dpi (ppi) to work with.
