After colouring an image, I'm always faced with the fact that it never quite looks like a real image, due to tonal range, blah blah.. I've come to accept that.

Can anyone suggest a post technique for black and white to colour that will make it look a little more real? I've done the usual curves, tones, colour balancing etc, I'm just wondering if there is a filter I can use or some mystical overlay?
