I have searched a little and probably can't seem to find the info I am looking for use to the term used for it.

I basically have a pic that I want as the background and a font I want to use.

Instead of the font haing a color I want the overlap of the pic to be used where the letters would have color.

Any suggestions?

I’m not sure what you mean by “overlap of the pic to be used where the letters would have color”. But you can have any image appear as your font color. Just place your image on the layer above your Type layer. Target the image layer and go Layer>Create Clipping Mask (control + G).

Hope this helps.
